Return to normal winter predicted for Northwest

La Nina weather pattern will deliver more snow, some cold conditions

Bundled up fans watch the Eastern Washington, Northern Iowa game last week, braving some of the chilliest weather in years for the opening of football season in Cheney.

Fall arrives, astronomically speaking at least, today, Sept. 22 with the autumnal equinox.

But to the 8,600 fans who packed Roos Field for last Saturday's Eastern Washington football game versus Northern Iowa, they may have thought it was closer to October.

Brisk winds and a few spits of rain were the rule for most of the day.

The weather turned out to be spot-on with a forecast that retired EWU meteorology professor Bob Quinn delivered Sept. 16 when he peered into his crystal weather ball to predict the upcoming winter of 2016-17.
