ML S.C.O.P.E. invites public to meet resource officer

The Medical Lake S.C.O.P.E. station invites the public to a meeting with Spokane County Sheriff’s Deputy Travis Pendell, who is also the school district’s resource officer. The meeting is Monday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall, 124 S. Lefevre St. Ways to volunteer, school safety and a question and answer period will also be presented.

Feed Cheney returns to free hot dinners Sept. 26

September brings the return of the Feed Cheney free hot dinners for families and individuals on the last Monday of each month. Sept. 26 will feature a pulled pork dinner at the Sutton Park Gazebo, 805 Washington St., from 5:30 – 6:30 pm.

In addition to the dinner, groceries will be distributed and community volunteers will be recognized. Beginning in October, the dinners will be held in the Wren Pierson Community Center for the rest of the school year.

Cheney book discussion group meets Sept. 27

“Letter from a Wary Watcher: A Moira Edwards Walker Mystery” is the September selection of the Book Discussion Group of the Friends of the Cheney Community Library. The group meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 27, at the library.

A tale of wartime espionage, “Tales from a Wary Watcher” also tells the story of Richland, Wash. and how it grew from a farming settlement to a thriving community as the result of the atomic bomb development.

The local co-authors, Rita Gard Seedorf and Margaret Albi Verhoef, will lead the discussion. For more information, please call 235-4490.

Yard sale at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Oct. 1

Cheney’s St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is holding a yard sale in the church parking lot and parish hall on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Items for sale will include household goods, kitchen ware, furniture, clothing, gardening tools and much more.

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church is located at 625 C St.

Grapes and Hops auction and fundraiser Oct. 29

The Medical Lake High School Booster Club is holding its 10th annual evening of wine, beer, hors d’oeuvres and desserts fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 29. The “Grapes & Hops Silent & Live Auction Fundraiser” takes place from 6 – 10 p.m. at St. Anne’s Parish Hall, 708 E. Lake St.

Tickets are $25 per person in advance, $30 at the door day of the event. Must be at least 21 years of age to attend.

Tickets are available at the Cardinals concession stand during football games, and can be paid for with cash, credit/debit cards or checks payable to MLHS Booster Club, or call (757) 508-0265.
