Carol J. Eastlund

Carol J. Eastlund, age 86 passed away June 6, 2016 in Spokane, Wash. She was a survivor of gall bladder cancer, but lost a long, devastating battle with dementia.

Carol was born in Dover, Idaho on Jan. 23, 1930 to Oscar and Lucy Robinson. She grew up in Sandpoint, graduated from Sandpoint High School and attended the University of Idaho.

Carol married Robert "Bob" Eastlund and moved to Cheney. They had two daughters, Robin and Shelley.

Carol opened a daycare in Cheney. She adored kids of all ages and made a positive and lasting impact on their lives. Carol later became a rural mail carrier in Cheney where she worked until retirement.

Carol and Bob enjoyed going out dancing with their dear friends, Earl and Erny Hilton. They also loved to camp, fish and pick huckleberries. Carol grew a bountiful garden every year. She developed interests in genealogy and scrapbooking, and devoted many hours to her favorite hobby - shopping.

Carol and Bob moved to Great Falls, Mont. in 2002 to be near Shelley's family. Carol was thrilled to be in Big Sky Country and to watch her youngest grandchild, Megan, grow up.

Carol moved back to Spokane in 2012 when Shelley and her family relocated to South Carolina. She was diagnosed with dementia shortly after her move. Carol fought many battles, and one of the most debilitating was macular degeneration. The Lilac Blind Foundation in Spokane made all the difference in her quality of life.

Carol was preceded in death by her father, Oscar Robinson; her mother, Lucy Robinson; her oldest brother, Allan Dale Robinson and her husband, Bob Eastlund.

She is survived by her daughter Robin (Tom) Showalter of Cheney; daughter Shelley (Greg) Jensen of Olive Branch, Miss.; granddaughter Megan Jensen of Moncks Corner, S.C.; grandson Todd (Vanessa) Showalter and great-granddaughter Tori Showalter of Oak Harbor, Wash.; grandson Kevin (Jennifer) Showalter of Spokane and great-grandchildren Janie and Henry Showalter of Spokane; brother Kenneth Lee Robinson of Texas; nephews Randy Robinson, Jim (Nancy) Robinson, Kenny Robinson, and Julie Robinson; sister-in-law Betty Worley of Oregon; nephew Mark (Barb) Worley of Alaska; nephew Steve (Kathi) Worley of Oregon. She is also survived by special family members Patty Raina of California and Sharon Cline of Cheney.

At Carol's request, there will be no service. Immediate family will celebrate her life at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Lilac Blind Foundation, 1212 N Howard St., Spokane, WA 99201.
