Norma Jean Pierce

Norma Jean Pierce passed away on Aug. 3, 2016 in Spokane at the age of 88. Norma was born March 1, 1928 in Spokane to Otto and Edith Wegner.

She grew up on a farm near Reardan and graduated from Reardan High School with the class of 1946 with valedictorian honors. She attended Eastern Washington State College and received a bachelor's degree in education in 1949. While at Eastern, she met her husband, Stan Pierce. They were married Nov. 25, 1949 in Reardan.

Norma taught school for 27 years in the Palouse and Cheney school districts, but took time off to raise their three children while residing in Cheney.

Norma enjoyed being involved with the organizations of ADK, BETA, and PEO, as well as, singing in Lutheran Women in Harmony. She was a member of Central Lutheran Church in Spokane. The last five years she resided at Moran Vista in Spokane and enjoyed activities and socializing with friends.

Her hobbies included crocheting, baking, spending time at their lake home, and cheering on her beloved "Zags" basketball. The highlight of her life was her grandchildren.

Norma was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Stan, and her sisters, Marjorie Biermann and Mildred Williams.

Norma is survived by her three children, Bob Pierce (Rida) of Spokane; Jan West (Rick) of Bellevue and Mark Pierce (Jonnelle) of Spokane. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Austan Pierce of Bedford, Tex., Becca West of Seattle and Kendra Pierce of Portland, Ore.
