An Eastern Washington University summer tradition, the 29th-Annual Ron Raver Memorial Golf Classic presented by Harvest Foods will take place Wednesday, Aug. 3 at Liberty Lake and MeadowWood golf courses.

The scramble format tournament begins at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start. Special “team handicapping” will again be used, as each team will be assigned a handicap and will begin the tournament under par.

Cost to enter the tournament is $150, or $600 for a team of four, with net proceeds going toward athletic scholarships at Eastern Washington University. The cost includes dinner, beverages, range balls, green fees, cart and a special gift.

Tee and green sponsorships, which include signage and an entry for a team of four, are available for $1,000 each. Major sponsorships cost $2,000.

The event is named after Ron Raver, who was Eastern’s Athletic Director for 11 years, and was a force in the school’s rise from the NAIA to NCAA Division I. He was a former tennis coach, assistant basketball coach and assistant and head baseball coach at EWU. Raver retired in 2000 but continued to assist the department with special events and fundraising.

In fall 2001, he was inducted into the Eastern Athletics Hall of Fame, which he helped create five years earlier. Raver passed away on March 1, 2002, at the age of 62 after a battle with cancer.
