A impact analysis of the Graham Road and Stanley Street State Route 902 intersections concluded traffic generated by new homes to be added to the Fox Hollow subdivision won’t be significant enough to warrant changes to the intersection to accommodate increased turning traffic.

Medical Lake’s girls led the list of local successes at the summer’s first Cardinal Classic basketball tournament at Medical Lake High School. The Lady Cardinals finished third out of 12 teams, with Rogers High School taking first place.

Cheney’s Cameron Schlotter took first place for wrestling in the novice division at the Western Regional Freestyle Championships in Klamath Falls, Ore.

Airway Heights residents got their first glimpse of the Kalispel Tribe’s proposed casino plans. Stressing the economic benefits to both the community and to the tribe itself, the project’s development team tried to convince the attending public the casino is a safe bet.

Over 50 women in Cheney fell victim, innocently, to whom police deemed “the cell phone bandit.” He seemed to randomly call numbers, waiting for a woman to answer. Then using good interviewing skills, he got the women to tell him their names and other personal information before they realized what happened. Sgt. Allen Bremner of the Cheney Police Department admitted that the cell phone bandit was one step ahead of the police because of no caller ID on local phones.

July 17, 1986

The Cheney School Board, after interviewing two candidates for a vacant board seat, voted to accept Diane Showalter’s application for the position.

Patricia Williams was crowned queen of the 1986 Cheney Rodeo.

The Washington State Liquor Control Board recently announced it had appointed Thomas M. McCormick as the new manager of Medical Lake Agency No. 601 in Spokane County.

Ronald McDonald House of the Inland Northwest received a special $3,200 gift from the Interstate Bank of Washington.

July 1, 1976

A grant from the Department of Health, Education and Welfare will allow Eastern Washington State College’s dental hygiene program to not only increase class sizes, but also offer care to more people.

The Cheney Track Club’s intermediate boys 880 relay team set an Inland Empire and national AAU record at Woodward Stadium last Saturday. Randy Spacek, Floyd Mattern, David Blakely and Jeff Anderson were members of the foursome.

The Medical Lake School Board rejected a bid on moving the re-locatable classroom from Blair Elementary to Medical Lake High School and dealt with the proposed shift of elementary students from MLES to Blair during their most recent meeting.

June 7, 1966

Although nothing came of a 3-year-old trumpeter swan’s attempt to hatch five eggs at the Turnbull Wildlife Refuge, information about this rare bird supplied by refuge manager Earl Brooks proved to be highly interesting.

EWSC has been awarded grants totaling $42,375 under the community services program of the 1965 education act of the federal government.

Bill Wilson, new president of the Cheney-Medical Lake Rotary Club, presided at the meeting on Tuesday and paid the usual fine for having a birthday.
