Water tower painting delayed

AH council to discuss how to pay for added costs incurred by discovery of lead-based primer

Airway Heights City Council voted unanimously at its June 6 meeting to defer a decision on awarding a contract for repainting the exterior of the city’s 43-year-old water reservoir tower at Sunset Park.

The deferment vote took place after Public Works Director Kevin Anderson told the council the engineer’s estimate for the project of $149,500 had more than doubled to $325,672 due to the discovery of a lead-based primer on the exterior of the tower. Because of the hazardous material, the project became more than just simple repainting.
