Cheney softball stages a comeback for the ages

Lady Blackhawks mount eight-run rally in final at bat to beat WV

It’s not unusual to see teams rally from huge deficits to win games. But those rallies usually take time.

For the Cheney High softball team, time — or rather outs — was running out in the Great Northern League regular season finale May 3 against league-leader West Valley. Faced with a seven-run deficit in their last at bat in the bottom of the seventh inning, the Lady Blackhawks found a way to deliver the miraculous, scoring eight runs to upset the visiting Eagles 14-13.

“I’ve never seen a team come from that far back in one inning,” Cheney head coach Gary Blake said.
