Charles Wendell Gassett Jr.

Charles Wendell Gassett Jr, (also known by his stage name of Charles Kenfield), formerly of Pembroke, Mass., Omak and Cheney, Wash., died April 18, 2016 at Hospice House of Spokane. He was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Gertrude Stedman Gassett and his sister, Nancy Erikson. He is survived by his nieces, Karen Erikson and Todd Weaver, both of Massachusetts.

Charles graduated from Pembroke High School and received his bachelor's degree from Goddard College in 1956. He took acting courses in New York with Norma Jean Daugherty (a.k.a. Marilyn Monroe). He worked as an extra in several Hollywood movies and was occasionally a camera stand-in for Clint Eastwood in Clint's earlier movies. He taught English and drama at Omak High School and was beloved by his students. He was a talented musician, composer, theatre director and an avid gardener.

There will be a life celebration at the Marketplace Bakery & Eatery in Cheney on May 7 from 1 - 4 p.m. All who knew him are welcome. A second celebration and scattering of his ashes is scheduled for mid-July at the Buttercup Ranch in Omak. Charles' family and friends would like to extend their immense gratitude to the Hospice of Spokane staff. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hospice of Spokane. Spokane Cremation is assisting the family with arrangements.
