Citing differences over salary and workload, contract negotiations between Eastern Washington University and the United Faculty of EWU broke down and would be settled by an impartial state mediator.

The Cheney Planning Commission approved the moving of the stream behind the planned Bi-Mart store in Cheney.

Freshman catcher Carey Campbell drove in 12 runs on five hits, including two doubles and two home runs as the Cardinals swept a pair of games, 11-9 and 12-6, against Clarkston.

Users of the Cheney city swimming pool were expected to be paying more money this year following a ruling from the Washington state Department of Revenue that an 8-percent sales tax needed to be collected.

Jon Ballester, manager of Cheney’s Recycling Center, was recently given an award of excellence from Spokane County.

With Chad Randall claiming a pair of wins in the 100-and 400-meter races, and August Parker collecting victories in the high hurdles and high jump, Cheney won a Frontier League track meet over Pullman. The boys won 84-60 while the girls were 95–43 winners.

April 29, 1976

In a statement that conflicted with one given earlier this month, Eastern Washington State College’s director of college relations, John Lothspeich said that an inspection of the now closed fieldhouse was requested.

Redding Construction of Spokane submitted the apparent low bid of $1.547 million to build a new fieldhouse at EWSC. The matter would be an agenda item at the board of trustees meeting.

Kelly Williams drove in Ron Huffman with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as Cheney beat previously undefeated and defending state AA baseball champion Clarkston, 9-8.

April 28, 1966

A census conducted by the Christian Men’s Fellowship revealed there were 4,166 residents in Cheney, up from 3,883 in 1965.

The Cheney Citizens Advisory Committee met to elect new officers for the 1966-67 school year. They included Margaret Whitfield, chair, Robert Shea, vice-chair, Shirley Patterson secretary and Richard Getrum, treasurer.
