There are a lot of unknowns with the 2016 Medical Lake track team but some of those mysteries went away last Saturday in Wenatchee as the Cardinals ran against teams from six 4A schools in the Ray Cockrum Relays. Cashmere, another 1A school, also competed.

Staged at Wenatchee High School on a sunny spring day, the meet produced a pair of impressive individual finishes for Cardinal sprinters Dawson Lack and Lexi Rolan.

Lack, a senior, edged Woodinville’s Micah Johnson in the 100-meters dash, scoring an 11.38 – 11.41 second win. Rolan, a junior, had it relatively easy in her 100-meter win over Wenatchee freshman Skyler Walton, 12.40 – 12.51.

“They were pretty solid, even against the big schools,” co-coach Gene Blankenship said.

Medical Lake’s 4x100 relay team of BJ Smith, Keyhon Ross, Jared Wright and Lack were edged by Kentridge, 44.47 – 44.76.

“In the 4 X 100 we just got nipped,” Blankenship said. “Our sprint team is almost as strong as it was last year,” when the team won an individual state 1A title.

“Our girls’ jumps are really good this year,” Blankenship said. That part of the team is led by freshman Jaxyn Farmen who finished fourth in the long jump with a leap of 15-feet, 1-inch. Farmen was sixth in the triple jump at 33-1.75.

No point standings had been posted as of press-time, but Blankenship said he thinks his team would have finished mid-pack, fourth or fifth.

Medical Lake is off until April 16 and the Pasco Relays.
