Dale F. Hagel, Sr.

Dale Franklin Hagel, Sr. died peacefully surrounded by family at his home on Feb. 8, 2016 in Spokane, Wash., at 82 years old.

Dale is survived by his 11 children and their spouses: Dale Jr. and Sharon Hagel of Medical Lake; Gary Hagel of Spokane; Teresa and John Spracklen of Pahrump, Nev.; Donald and Amy Hagel of Spokane; Susan and Michael Klemke of Medical Lake; Cindy and William Kirste of Winnemucca, Nev., Sam and Paulette Hagel of Spokane; Larry and Susan Hagel of Spokane; Jerry and Dora Hagel of Medical Lake; Bryant and Lisa Hagel of Spokane and David and Staci Hagel of Springfield, Ore.

Dale loved being a grandfather and often bragged about his 45 grand and great-grandchildren. On his door hung a sign that read, "Being a Grandparent is the Best Revenge."

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Carol Adair, Shirley Patterson, Roy Hagel and Jerri Morasch and is survived by his sister Dixie Crabb of Cheney.

Dale was born on July 30, 1933 in Spokane, Wash., to Frank and Nellie Hagel. He graduated from Cheney High School in 1951. Dale served active duty in the Army for two years then spent three years in the Air National Guard. He married Juanita Rohner in 1959. He worked for the Spokane County Road Department for 36 years before retiring as a district maintenance supervisor.

Starting in 1962, with the help of family and friends, Dale operated Hagel's House of Horrors on the West Plains, providing the community with the best haunted house in the Spokane area for over 27 years.

Dale was loving and devoted to family and friends, always ready and willing to help everyone but also enjoying friendly pranks and jokes. "Kwitcherbelliaken."

He enjoyed all gatherings, and played Santa Claus every Christmas at the Windsor Grange for over 50 years.

Dale kept his humor and positive attitude up to the very end of his almost two-year battle with cancer.

Funeral services were Feb. 13 at St. Augustine's Catholic Parish. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Horizon Hospice, 123 W. Cascade Way, Spokane, WA 99208.
