Gary Albert Dahl

Gary was born Nov. 15, 1944 and passed away Jan. 14, 2016 in Spokane after a short illness.

Gary was the son of Geraldine Hubbell Dahl and Albert Vossler Dahl and was born in Seattle, Wash. The family moved to Cheney where Gary attended Campus Elementary. During the time in Cheney the twins, Gayle and Gloria joined the family.

When Gary was 7, the family moved to a farm in the Amber area. His youngest sister Geraldine Jill was born in 1952. Gary attended Amber Grade School and Cheney High School, graduating in 1963. He had a special bond with his classmates. Gary was a gifted high school athlete, lettering in football, basketball and track and continued to play football and basketball at Eastern Washington State College.

Gary married Jennifer Ann Jordan in November 1966. Their son Ian Lance was born the next year and they moved to the family farm outside of Cheney. Gary was drafted into the U.S. Army in December of 1968 and became a drill sergeant in the Army Reserves. His daughter Carolyn Paige was born in 1969 and his second son Albert Vance in 1971.

In 1969 Gary was hired by Spokane County as a technical engineer. He became a project inspector, working on a survey crew and retired after 30 years.

Gary had many enthusiasms. He was a voracious reader and enjoyed photography, and woodworking. He designed and built the family home and enjoyed model railroading, auctions, playing cards, storytelling and teasing. Gary shared this love with his sons and six grandsons-Ethan and Logan Dahl; Vladimir and Victor Lopukhov along with Connor and Jake Dahl.

Gary is survived by his wife, Jennifer; son Lance (Nancy); daughter Carolyn (Sergey); son Albert (Shannon); his grandsons; granddaughter, Madelon; sister Gayle Ferguson; as well as many nieces and nephews; maternal cousins Billie Klan, Judy Christensen and Pam Thompson; and the cousins from Oklahoma. His parents Geraldine and Al as well as sisters Gloria and Geraldine (Jill) preceded Gary in death.

A celebration of Gary's life will be held in the summer. Those wishing to make memorial contributions are encouraged to donate to the Cheney United Church of Christ with Feed Cheney in the memo line. The church address is 423 North Sixth St., Cheney, WA 99004.
