Deadlines for submitting West Plains Briefs is noon Monday. Briefs should be under 100 words. Briefs may be edited for length.

MLHS student sketch night Jan. 29 and Jan. 30 at 6 p.m.

Medical Lake High School student sketch night, featuring five sketches written, directed and performed by the students of MLHS, plus a couple of improvised scenes is taking place this weekend.

Performances are at 6 p.m. on both Friday, Jan. 29, and Saturday Jan. 30 in the high school auditorium. Admission is free.

Cheney depot display at library in February

The Cheney Library will be hosting a “Save Our Station” (SOS) display during February, sponsored by the Cheney Depot Society. The display will contain historical items and information relating to Cheney’s unique Northern Pacific Depot.

The Society is working to relocate the depot from its current site just northeast of the BNSF/Cheney-Spangle Road crossing and to renovate and repurpose it as one of Cheney’s historical and cultural icons.

The Society is launching a major fundraising effort during February to support these goals. Watch for donation canisters at supporting merchants.

Festival of Chocolate Feb. 9

Cheney’s Emmanuel Lutheran Church is celebrating Fat Tuesday with its seventh annual “Festival of Chocolate,” featuring “all-you-can-eat chocolate treats to satisfy the most chocoholic of hearts.”

The festival takes place Tuesday, Feb. 9, from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran, 639 Elm St. Donations benefit Vacation Bible School. For more information call 235-6300.
