Celebrating Martin Luther King Day brings many reflections

Last Monday, Jan. 18, people across the United States celebrated the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a holiday that celebrated its 30-year anniversary.

The holiday was first observed in 1986, three years President Ronald Reagan signed it into law. On The King Center’s website, Coretta Scott King, King’s widow, explained that the holiday honors many aspects about her late husband’s philosophy.
