Firefighters, city work out new contract

At its Jan. 12 meeting, the Cheney City Council approved a three-year contract between the city and the International Association of Fire Fighters Local 1919 chapter; giving Cheney firefighters pay increases and making changes to language in the previous contract.

The new contract, which runs through 2018, provides firefighters a 1.5 percent base salary increase this year. It also provides a base wage increase of 1.75 – 3 percent in 2017 and 2018, depending on the West Region’s consumer price index and how it affects similar contracts in Western Washington.
