Thoughtexchange information available

The Cheney School District is excited to share now that the Thoughtexchange Discover process is now complete. At the start of the school year, Cheney invited staff, parents and community members to share their thoughts, concerns and positive ideas about the district. The district then invited the community to review and prioritize the thoughts using the Star process.

Eight hundred and seventy-nine individuals responded, and participants from across the district shared 1,557 thoughts and assigned 43,686 stars to their top priorities.

Cheney discovered that the community appreciates the teachers and staff – “all the teachers we have met have been wonderful to our children,” one of the comments said. “They are attentive and most are very flexible and understanding when issues arise. I believe Cheney School District has some of the best teachers in the area.”

To view details for the district as well as individual buildings, visit http://cheneysd.thoughtexchange.com. There, community members can follow a theme down to the specific comments made by the participants that contributed to the process.

Thode to commission music for Westwood

This year the Westwood Middle School seventh- and eighth-grade band, students has decided that they would like to have another piece of music commissioned by Alex Thode. Last year Thode wrote the band a piece of music called “Warrior Rising.”

Thode also created the music for the Cheney High School marching band’s “Introspection.”

This year the band decided the piece will be written about the aftermath of the wind storm that just blew through Eastern Washington.

The band is accepting donations, which will be collected at their winter concert, Dec. 17, at 7 p.m., to help pay for the cost of the music. The music will premiere at the band’s mid-year concert, March 17, 2016.
