Medical Lake postpones school board meeting

Due to high gusts of wind and potential travel hazards, the Medical Lake School District postponed its Nov. 17 board meeting and rescheduled it for Nov. 24 at 4 p.m. at the district office.

Gardeners of Cheney donates to FFA

The Gardeners of Cheney recently donated $500 to the Cheney High School Future Farmers of America (FFA). The check was awarded at the group’s monthly meeting on Nov. 9 in support of horticulture instruction at Cheney High School.

The money will be used to make improvements to the greenhouse and purchase seeds, plant material and supplies that will be used in both the greenhouse management and floral design classes to teach students about propagation, crop production and post-harvest care. The district deeply appreciates their continued support of all students.

Gifts for Foster Santa breakfast

Medical Lake Middle School students should remember to bring their donated unwrapped Christmas gifts for the Foster Santa breakfast to their first period teacher. The class with the most gifts will receive a Pizza Factory pizza party on Dec. 4.

The Foster Santa Breakfast is Dec. 5 at Northern Quest Casino starting at 9 a.m.

Hallett Hawks fundraiser

This year Hallett Elementary School’s ASB Helping Others project is “Helping Paws.” To emphasize giving during the holiday season, this year students will also be helping the Medical Lake Food Bank.

There is a collection box for each grade level. Students will be collecting items Nov. 20 through Dec. 18.

Items that are needed are dry dog food, dry cat food, non-clumping litter, cat treats and dog treats. For more information, contact the Hallett Elementary office at (509) 565-3400.

CHS XC team Turkey Trot

The Cheney High School Cross Country Team Booster’s eighth annual Turkey Trot takes place Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 26 at 9 a.m. at the high school track. The two-mile or three-mile walk/run is for runners and walkers of all ages.

The entry fee is $5 without T-shirt, $20 including long or short-sleeved T-shirt if registering in person by 8:30 a.m. day of the trot only. Participants receive a ticket for a drawing to win a turkey and other prizes.
