City Council elects Lawrence deputy mayor

Airway Heights City Council members elected Councilman Steve Lawrence at their Oct. 5 meeting to serve as the city’s deputy mayor. The move was made necessary when Councilman Kevin Richey resigned his Position 5 seat to take over the duties of mayor after the resignation of former mayor Patrick Rushing in August.

Councilman Doyle Inman nominated Lawrence for the position while Richey nominated Councilwoman Tanya Dashiell, who was absent and excused from the meeting due to being on vacation. The council then voted 3-0, with two abstentions, to elect Lawrence.
