Ice Age Floods Institute announces October hikes

The Cheney-Spokane Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute has several activities planned for the month of October.

The first is this Sunday’s (Oct. 4) 11-mile-plus bike ride on the abandoned Milwaukee Railroad grade trail along Rock Lake in Whitman County. Although not open to the public, ride leaders Dr. Eugene Kiver and Dr. Charles Mutschler have obtained a special permit for one-day use of the trail.

Saturday, Oct. 10, Kiver and geologist Bruce Bjornstad will lead a 5 – 6 mile round-trip hike with a 700-foot climb to the top of Steamboat Rock at Banks Lake, which offers superb views...
