Cheney historical book is released

Hundreds of bits and pieces of Cheney's history got dusted off, brought out of boxes, and finally displayed for the world to see Friday, Aug. 28.

The Cheney Museum's new book, "Images of America: Cheney," made its debut at a special signing by author Joan Mamanakis at New Boundary Brewing.

Business was pretty brisk for Mamanakis who said 43 of the $20 books were pre-sold and another 30 at the signing. The 128-page book is full of several hundred photos and a wealth of information on Cheney, dating back to 1869 when homesteader Thomas Philleo first arrived in the area.

"My tag line for people is see something familiar, learn something new, and the comments I am hearing are just that," Mamanakis wrote in an email. "People discover something they didn't know before, and even the most recent arrivals find something they are familiar with."

The book, a fundraiser for the Cheney Historical Museum, is currently on sale at the museum for $20, tax included, and at Cheney Feed and Tack and New Boundary Brewing for $21.99 plus tax. The Eastern Washington University bookstore will have copies later in September.

Mamanakis is scheduled to do a signing at Aunties Bookstore in Spokane, Saturday, Sept. 5 from 1-3 p.m.
