Behind a white picket fence a few blocks from Medical Lake City Hall lay unexpected treasures. Pauline and Gary Descombaz accommodated the city's pleas for limiting water use by replacing existing lawns with bark and other non-thirsty ground covers. They concentrated on watering specimen plants, fruit trees and their vegetable garden. Pauline's sense of design and Gary's implementation of the projects resulted in the charming garden that enveloped the house and led to an outdoor patio that offered respite from the summer heat and chores of the season.
