Kari Knowlton named new Medical Lake volleyball coach

Brewster, Wash. native and budding teacher Kari Knowlton is the latest person who will attempt to turn the volleyball ship around at Medical Lake High School.

Knowlton succeeds Amanda Higgins who had to resign due to conflicts with her regular job at Zak Designs. She will be the fourth volleyball head coach at ML since 2007.

“I firmly believe that this program needs to get back to the basics and build a strong foundation in the fundamentals of the game to become successful,” Knowlton said. Medical Lake struggled through an 0-14 season in 2014.

The 2009 graduate of Brewster High played collegiately for a year at Community Colleges of Spokane before transferring to Grand Canyon University to study education. Knowlton plans to graduate in the winter of 2016.

Knowlton, 24, has played volleyball since she was 8-years-old and earned a spot on Brewster’s varsity team as a freshman. She was MVP of the Caribou Trail League her senior year and named to the All State team. While at CCS, Knowlton was part of the Sasquatch’s league championship team.
