Airway Heights looks at new logo, asks residents for feedback

Airway Heights is looking at making some cosmetic changes in hopes of enhancing its economic development, one being the recent update to its website. Another is a new city logo.

In collaboration with a marketing firm, the city designed a new logo earlier this year. Its design features the city's name in blue letters with an airplane flying above it. The airplane represents Airway Heights' close proximity to Spokane International Airport and Fairchild Air Force Base, as well as the expansion of aerospace industry in the area.

The city went to residents for feedback on the new logo. City Manager Albert Tripp said the response from residents has been mixed.

"Several people like the new logo while others view it as singular in nature and that it only focuses on aviation," Tripp said. "It's been mixed, but also well thought out, which we are glad to see."

The city's current logo was adopted by City Council in 2005 to coincide with Airway Heights' 50th anniversary. It shows a silhouette of a family standing on a path leading to a housing development with a tree, a sunrise and a jet in the background.

Tripp said many residents view the current logo as "more inclusive" and shows the positive aspects of the community, such as the growth in housing and park space.

Residents will have until July 10 to comment on the new logo.

Once the public comment period is over, the feedback will be brought to City Council for further direction.
