EWU trustees approve preliminary budget

Final approval will need special meeting

The Eastern Washington University board of trustees felt confident enough in the legislative process in Olympia they would have a budget to approve that they scheduled a June 26 meeting in Cheney.

So much for great expectations when dealing with lawmaking bodies that had to first go through their regular session of 104 days and then into three overtimes before finally agreeing June 28 on a compromise.

That did not hamper the guiding hands of the trustees, at least the five who were able to attend, as they moved unanimously and approved at least a spending plan totaling slightly over $271 milli...
