Cardinal boys stay in lead

The Medical Lake boys made the most of their lone Northeast A League tennis match breezing past Freeman 5-0, April 23. The victory kept the Cardinals (5-1) on top of the league standings by a half game over Lakeside (4-1).

“The boys came out firing on all cylinders this match,” co-head coach Jake Wesselman said.

Wins came from Noah Ray at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 and Tyler Krivolavy, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Austin Brown and Isiah Farmen won their No. 1 doubles round 6-1, 6-2 while the pairs of Kason Bailey and Alex Neder at No. 2 doubles and No. 3 doubles duo of Trevor Nilles and Colten Miller wrapped things up in the sweep.

Medical Lake’s girls split their two matches, losing to Colville 5-0 April 21 before toping Freeman 3-2 April 23. Despite coming in a losing effort, but lasting three hours, Cardinals’ co-head coach Dawn Eliassen called Annika Gahan’s 6-7(6-8), 6-2, 2-6 No. 2 singles loss to Colville’s Angela Heggen, ”The match of the day.”

In their win Gahan, Alyssa Fitzgerald (No. 1 singles) and the No. 1 doubles team of Annette Carlson and Cassidy Hagel (No. 1 doubles) earned the wins.
