One hundred twenty-five years ago in 1890, the City of Cheney obtained title to Fish Lake to use as its water supply. Ownership of the lake lasted until 1947. The pumping system came from a Portland firm. Prior to this, the municipal water system consisted of several wells on First Street and multiple private residential wells.
