Stanley Fay Robinson

Stanley Fay Robinson, age 90, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015, at his home at Madison House in Kirkland, Wash. Robinson and his family had been long time residents of Cheney.

He was a professor of mathematics at Eastern Washington University from 1966 – 1987 and Professor Emeritus through 1996. He was instrumental in promoting the creation of the Computer Science Department in 1984 and served as its first chairperson during which time he supervised that department's accreditation process.

Stanley was born in Green Bay, Wisc., to Fay Hubbard Robinson and Henrietta Dienberg Robinson. He graduated from West High School. He has remained an enthusiastic Green Bay Packers fan all his life.

He joined the U.S. Navy during World War II and was trained on a Navy scholarship as a meteorologist, attending the University of Wisconsin and UCLA.

He served as a meteorologist in the Pacific Theater during the war, and was later stationed in Adak, Alaska, during the Korean War.

Robinson earned a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Southern California. He married his wife, Kathlyn Heist Robinson in 1950. They enjoyed 44 years together before her passing in 1994.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Vivian Marron and Shirley Robinson. Robinson is survived by three daughters, Gaythia Robinson Weis, Lynette Robinson and Rochelle Robinson Santiago; four grandchildren, Allison, Lorraine, Estella and Stanley.
