Blackhawks defeat Greyhounds in GNL meet

The Cheney High boys and girls track teams achieved some success before spring break in its first Great Northern League track meet of the season April 2 against Pullman. The boys won 80-65 while the girls were victorious 80-70.

First-place finishes for Cheney boys included Petyon Putney in the 100-meter dash (11.30 seconds) and 200 (22.8), Drake Johnson in the 400 (53.2), Steaven Zachman in the 800 (2:02.1) and 1,600 (4:52.3), Kaleb Lerch in the 3,200 (11:00.5), Ethan Sugimiera in the javelin (127 feet and 11 inches) and Gaige Felix in the triple jump (39-1).

Second place finishers included Chris Diaz (200), Johnson (800), Isaiah Rigo (1600 wheelchair mile), Matthew Christenson (3200), Jackson Spencer (110 hurdles), Sam Schreiber (300 hurdles), Brett Wyborney (shot put), Cameron Hardt (high jump), Houston Moczukski (pole vault) and Felix (long jump).

On the girls' side several Blackhawks went home with first place finishes including Alsatta Bakana in the 200 (26.9), Hannah Spakousky in the 3200 (12:26.4), KD Skillingstad in the 300 hurdles (46.1) and the triple jump (32-02), Hailey Ottosen in the discus (93-05), Riley Pease in the javelin (116-05) and Jamie Bradley in the pole vault (10-06). The girls relay team took second in the 4x400 relay.

Second place finishers for the girls included Katie McGourin (400), Jolene Whitley (800), Spakousky (1,600), Melissa Hunley (discus), Helen Levchenko (javelin), Bakana (high jump), Brooklyn Spencer (pole vault), Ally Jones (long jump) and Kayla Lemelin (triple jump).

Both the boys and girls track teams return to action April 16, traveling to Clarkston to compete in their second GNL meet of the season.
