Medical Lake housing development queued north of SR 902

An area north of State Route 902 in Medical Lake will continue to have some growth in housing developments in the upcoming months.

Back in February, city staff approved a short plat — or subdivision — for housing developments along Stanley Street and Kathy Lee Avenue. City Administrator Doug Ross explained that short plats are approved through the administration and not required to be brought to the Planning Commission, as opposed to preliminary plats for large developments.

“The development is four lots that are zoned residential for duplexes or two single-family units,” Ross said. He added that the conditions of the agreement include the delegation of the wetlands in the buffer zone.

Jeff Amistoso, owner of D and J Elk Ridge Heights LLC is developing the property. He has previously developed in Medical Lake as a part of A and K Development, beginning in 1994 and has helped oversee the construction of 454 housing units in the areas of Fox Hollow and Fox Ridge. He also helped develop the area around Rockwood Clinic. There was a lawsuit in 2008 between the city and A and K Development over zoning issues. The lawsuit was dismissed to preserve the working relationship between the city and the development company.

Amistoso plans to develop the area, then sell the lots to builders, who will decide what type of housing will go on the property.

“The builders can choose what goes into the development but it will more than likely be duplexes,” Amistoso said.
