Wendy Kay Cook

Wendy was born in Pullman, Wash., Feb. 7, 1956 to her loving parents Leon and Frances Mayfield. She was called home after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Feb. 10.

Wendy loved her family and friends. She also loved all the children in the Cheney School District where she worked for over 20 years and was better known as simply, the lunch lady. In her spare time Wendy was a published poet and loved sewing, embroidery, gardening, and most of all baking. She made some of the best deserts that any well-known chef would be envious of.

Wendy was preceded in death by her parents Leon and Frances Mayfield as well as her sister Melinda Phelps. She is survived by her beloved husband Wayne Kelly Cook, children Jason Mayfield, Stormie Cook and Brandon Cook all from Medical Lake; a brother Donald Mayfield, sisters Connie Heatherly, Becky Yearout, Donna Mackey and Lisa Zimmerman, as well as four grandchildren Alyssa Mayfield, Tayah Mayfield, Cameron Mayfield and Cheyenne Hood.

A memorial service was held for Wendy at the Medical Lake City Hall auditorium March 1. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the American Cancer Society or Hospice Care of Spokane.
