A home building construction boom appeared to be on the horizon for the land adjacent to the Fairways Golf Course with upwards of 92 lots for sale.

The proposal to erect a new cell phone tower behind Bills Tavern in downtown Cheney appeared to face little opposition with just two written comments submitted.

Blake Risk helped salvage an otherwise disappointing 20th place finish for the Cheney Blackhawks at Mat Classic XVII in Tacoma with his runner-up effort at 130 pounds.

Feb. 23, 1995

Separate police dispatch centers of the city of Cheney and Eastern Washington University were to be combined according to Police Chief Jerry Gardner.

The much-debated Hale Annexation, which would allow inventor Alan Hale to build his Xn Technologies manufacturing facility behind the Excell grocery store, was approved, in part, by a vote of the Cheney City Council.

The Cheney High School Lady Hawks successfully completed their regular season with a perfect 20-0 overall record, and 10-0 in Frontier League play following a 64-24 win over Pullman. Jenny Hoots scored 14 points to lead Cheney.

Feb. 28, 1985

Cheney Mayor Tom Trulove said he liked the idea of a proposed new metro center to replace the aging Spokane Coliseum, but he did not like the idea of how the project would be funded through a county-wide property tax levy.

A public meeting was scheduled to discuss a new downtown Cheney revitalization project along Main Street.

Led by the 14 points of Bill Raunig, Cheney defeated Pullman 49-41 to advance to the 2A basketball regionals against Toppenish at Reese Court.

Feb. 27, 1975

The Red Barn, a building constructed in 1889 near the Eastern Washington University campus, was scheduled for a facelift estimated at $51,000 and would turn the structure into multiple uses, including classrooms.

Cheney Fire Chief Jerry Blakely’s plans to combine his job, and that of the police chief into one as the public safety coordinator lost on a 4-3 vote by City Council. The issue was likely to be revisited at a later date.

Despite scoring a 70-67 upset win in Evergreen Conference basketball play over Central Washington in Ellensburg, EWU was passed over for postseason play the NAIA selection committee which chose the University of Alaska.

Feb. 26, 1965

An invitation for the public to visit the new Cheney Historical Museum was issued by the sponsoring Tillicum Club. The museum, featuring some 400 items, was located in the basement of the Cheney Junior High School.

The Medical Lake Chamber of Commerce announced it would have a community float in the Spokane Lilac Festival.

Cheney High School’s wrestling team completed its Northeast A League season with a perfect 10-0 record and 12-6 overall.
