In a news release, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office announced that on Feb. 3, 2015, just after 9:30 p.m., Deputy Julian Covella arrested Timothy M. Clement, 41, for possession of a controlled substance/methamphetamine and on a warrant for Department Corrections escape.

Covella noticed Clement walking in the middle of North Stanley Street, East of Barker Street in Medical Lake. When Clement noticed Covella’s patrol car, he walked to the east side of Stanley, down an embankment and into the unfenced backyard of a residence.

Covella contacted Clement , who said he knew the homeowner and was staying at the residence. Clement stated he didn’t have identification but verbally identified himself. Covella checked the name over his radio and was informed there was a valid arrest warrant and took Clement into custody. During a search, he located a clear baggie containing a white crystalline substance believed to be methamphetamine in Clement’s coat pocket.

Once secured in the back seat of the patrol car, Clement informed Covella he had given the deputy a false name. Covella located a Washington ID in Clement’s wallet which confirmed his correct identity. A records check of Clement’s name showed that he also had a valid warrant for his arrest.

Clement was transported and booked into the Spokane County Jail.

The substance in the baggie was later tested and showed a presumptive positive result for methamphetamine.
