A noise battle between North Star Equipment Company and its neighbor, Peaceful Pines Mobile Home Park, was over after a Spokane County hearing examiner ruled in favor of measures taken by North Star to solve the problem.

Construction crews were putting the finishing touches on the building along State Route 902 that would soon house Denny’s Harvest Foods.

Cheney got 29 points from Derek Miller, 26 in the second half, as the Blackhawks earned a 71-64 boys’ basketball victory over East Valley.

Dec. 15, 1994

A projected enrollment gain of 60 students turned into a loss of nearly 90 students, costing the Cheney School District approximately $300,000 in state funds.

Cheney’s girls’ undefeated basketball team added to the fun of the High School’s brand new gym after a 4-0 start in nonleague play following a 53-49 win over Shadle Park. Melissa Krogh scored 14 points in the victory.

Dec. 20, 1984

Cheney postmaster Elmo Bartlett announced he would end a nearly 30-year career with the U.S. Postal Service on Jan. 3, 1985. Bartlett, a Cheney resident since 1951, began his career as a rural letter carrier in the area in 1955.

The Cheney School Board announced plans to purchase a 20-acre parcel of land along Melville Road for $70,000 as site of a future elementary school.

Cheney High School football players Bill Raunig and Roger Kugler were nominated to play in the eighth annual East/West All-Star football game that would be played later in the summer.

Dec. 19, 1974

Cheney utilities staff was going to be reduced by three people, including the superintendent, saving the city approximately $16,000 in 1975 and $24,000 in 1976.

Medical Lake Superintendent of Schools, Byron Leeper, announced plans for transfer of teachers from existing district schools to the new middle school, scheduled to open in the fall of 1975.

Charlie Yankus scored 24 points to lead undefeated Medical Lake past Sandpoint 62-57 in a nonleague basketball game.

Dec. 18, 1964

Neighbors of 36-year-old Cheney resident William D. Charlton were surprised to see him named in a federal arrest warrant in connection with a recent bank robbery that netted him $3,210 from the Lamont National Bank branch in St. John, Wash.

Eastern Washington State College announced that 48 percent of all Spokane County residents who chose to pursue higher education were doing so at EWSC.

EWSC’s basketball team was looking for a measure of revenge when Western Montana College from Dillon, Mont. was scheduled to visit Cheney. The Bulldogs defeated the Savages 77-59 earlier in the season behind the 41 points from Bob Bradley.
