William "Bill" Lester

William "Bill" Lester, age 82, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014.

Bill was born July 9, 1932 in Pleasantville, Iowa and settled in Spokane after falling in love with the area while visiting. Bill served in the Navy on the USS Frank E. Evans during the Korean War and ended his 27 years of service in the Navy Reserve.

Bill was an avid kite flyer, master kite builder and judged kite competitions. He was one of the founders of Spokane's kite club, "The Lilac City Wind Chasers." He also belonged to the American Kite Fliers, WKA and AOK. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 44. 

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Connie Sutcliffe Lester, Spokane; a son, Craig (Karen) Lester, Deer Park and daughter, Chris Buob, Cheney. 

Bill is also survived by a brother, Fred Lester, Newton, Iowa; brother-in-law Terry (Marilyn) Sutcliffe, Harrington, Wash.; sister-in-law, Jaci Schlosser, Beaverton, Ore.; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Lillian Lester; brother, Claude Lester; sisters, Oral Minnick and Lillian Beck and son-in-law, Dan Buob.
