Blackhawks earn cross country split with West Valley

Cheney's Isaiah Rigo is all concentration climbing up the long incline on Presley Drive during the wheelchair competition at last Wednesday's cross country meet at Salnave Park.

In cross country, as in any other timed athletic event, not only seconds, but tenths and hundredths of seconds can make a difference between winning and coming up short.

The Cheney Blackhawks boys cross country team got a taste of that last Wednesday against a very good West Valley team. The intensity of the competition could be seen on the runners faces throughout the course - not just the physical toll but also the mental as the Blackhawk and Eagles dueled each other for every spot, every slight tick of the timer's clock.

In the end it was West Valley, edging Cheney 27-28 on the Blackhawks'...
