Agent Orange Town Hall meeting

The Vietnam Veterans of America are sponsoring a town hall meeting Saturday, Sept. 13, to obtain recorded testimony of Vietnam veterans, their children and grandchildren that suffer serious health issues because of service in Vietnam, particularly regarding exposure to Agent Orange.

The meeting, “Face of Agent Orange: Our Children and Grandchildren,” takes place from 1-5 p.m. at the United Steel Workers of America building, 14015 E.Trent Ave. in Spokane. The VVA lists 22 presumptive diseases connected to Agent Orange exposure, and is tracking 18 birth defects connected to the chemical taking place into the third generation.

INW Hiring Heroes

Several local organizations are sponsoring a career and resource fair for all area veterans, transitioning from military, National Guard, Reserve and dependents. The “Inland Northwest Hiring Heroes” fair takes place Friday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Spokane County Interstate Fair and Expo Center, 404 N. Havana St. in Spokane.

Local, regional and national employers will be attending.

Food drive at Fairways

The sixth annual Food Drive at the Fairways Golf Course is taking place Sept. 15 – 30.

Donate four items of non-perishable food (cans or boxes) or a cash donation and receive a coupon for 50 percent off green fees on your next round of golf.

Last year, four food bank boxes of food and $1,244 in cash donations were collected. Even if you don’t golf, please drop off any donation at the Fairways Clubhouse.
