Jim Hill, Mayor of Medical Lake since 1998, announced his resignation effective Oct. 1. Hill said he had been considering the move for some time and had since sold his home in the city.

The Cheney School District, faced with cost increases of over $120,000 in a variety of projects involving athletic facilities, decided to move ahead on installing a new all-weather running track at the high school.

Aug. 11, 1994

The Cheney School Board was scheduled to vote on a $26 million budget for 1994-95 at their Aug. 24 meeting.

Longtime Cheney resident Amy Jo Sooy was named to head the local Chamber of Commerce in a position of interim director.

Concerned that Medical Lake's sewer system was being taxed to its capacity, the City Council voted 5-1 to reject the annexation of 94 acres of land on the southeast part of the town that could have been featured as a housing development.

Medical Lake's Babe Ruth team finished its season with a 21-1 record and scored an average of 18 runs per game. Josh Early batted .661 and Jeremy Bahr .619 to lead the offense.

Aug. 9, 1984

Cheney residents were expected to present plenty of questions to Damon Taam of the Spokane County Utilities Department when he was scheduled to visit Cheney to discuss the proposed Waste-to-Energy plant on the West Plains.

The Eastern Washington University Board of Trustees voted to approve a $91.8 million budget and a $21.6 million capital budget for the 1985-87 biennium.

The Seattle Seahawks were preparing to depart Cheney Aug. 15 after staging their training camp here. Cuts in the final week would pare the roster from 88 to 70 players.

Aug. 15, 1974

The city of Cheney hired a new traffic control officer for the Police Department with parking and traffic control his prime responsibility.

In an effort to cover the increased cost of the electrical power it buys from the Bonneville Power Administration, the city of Cheney announced a 33.1 percent rate increase.

Cheney High School head football coach Bruce Grambo announced both the start of practice for the upcoming season as well as staff changes. Don Case will serve as defensive coordinator with Curt Hisaw in charge of the offensive line.

Aug. 7, 1964

New Cheney Superintendent of Schools William Riggs outlined details in the upcoming Sept. 15 special school election asking voters to fund $500,000 for construction of a new high school.

Cheney claimed the AAA championship in Spokane County Parks and Recreation Department baseball league with a 2-0 win over Country Homes. Phil Conrath pitched a one-hit shutout while Timm Shepard scored twice for the winners.
