Finish with three doubleheaders in AA American Legion play

The Cheney SummerHawks AA American Legion Baseball team finished their regular season with an 11-4 record after three consecutive Federal League doubleheaders against Freeman, July 12, Medical Lake, July 13, and Trail, July 14.
In game one against Freeman, Cheney beat the Scotties, 3-1. The SummerHawks took an early lead in the first inning on runs scored by Andrew Witt, Connor Pratt and Chance Gleave. The Scotties managed to score a run in the top of the seventh before the end. Pratt got the win on the mound, throwing a four-hitter.
In game two, Freeman came back with a vengeance, picking up a 17-7 win.
The SummerHawks took an early lead after an RBI single by Gleave. The Scotties took the lead after scoring two runs in the second. Cheney took back the lead after Riley Jones stole home, followed by an RBI double by Cameron Marchand.
After tying the score 3-3 in the third, Freeman took the lead with an eight-run fourth and a three-run fifth. Cheney started to gain some momentum in the fifth after an RBI double from Gleave and RBI singles from Kyle Jones and Logan Pratt. Witt scored the final run for Cheney in the sixth. The Scotties ended the game after scoring two runs in the sixth.
Due to scheduling changes, Cheney's two-game series against Medical Lake turned into a doubleheader. The SummerHawks lost the first game, 7-5.
They got an early lead in the first on RBI singles from Connor Pratt and Marchand, who also scored in the third. The Cardinals took the lead after a five-run fourth. Cheney managed to tie the game in the top of the fifth, however ML scored two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Cheney rebounded from the loss in game two, beating Medical Lake, 6-3.
Jones hit a 2-RBI single to give Cheney the early lead in the first while Logan Pratt hit a 2-RBI single in the third. Medical Lake had a one-run fifth and two-run sixth to prevent the shutout. In the sixth, Brannon Pederson hit an RBI single to get Cheney's final run of the game.
After the weekend, Cheney headed to British Columbia to play the Trail Orioles. They won the first game 15-11, then lost the second, 4-3. No stats from either game were provided.
SummerHawks manager Kadeem Smalls said his team was a little exhausted at times playing six games in three days.
"It would have been nice to have a little rest, but that's summer baseball," Smalls said. "There were times the guys got tuckered out because of the heat, but I was proud of how they competed. When you can finish the regular season as well as we did, that's got be a positive."
Smalls said his team met the expectations over the season.
"It's good to have a group that can turn up the level of competition and compete day in and day out," Smalls said.
As of press time there was no word on whether or not Cheney made the AA playoffs.
