SNAP 5K run to benefit assistance programs for Spokane County residents in need
The second annual Chase Strides for SNAP 5K Run is taking place Sunday, June 22, at Plantes Ferry State Park in Spokane Valley. The run begins at 10 a.m ., and is a partnership between Chase Bank and SNAP, Spokane Neighborhood Action Partners, to raise money for the non-profit organization that provides over 30 assistance programs to residents of Spokane County.
In 2013, SNAP helped nearly 43,000 residents, 13,816 households in areas such as energy assistance, foreclosure prevention, money management, weatherization, micro-enterprise development and affordable housing. Last year, SNAP helped 269 individuals escape foreclosure along with transitioning 749 individuals to permanent housing.
Last year’s inaugural family-friendly run drew over 200 participants. The run is a chipped and timed event with logistical support from Across the Line Timing. Registration is $10 or $20 with an official race T-shirt.
Prizes will be awarded to the top-three placers in men’s and women’s categories. Awards will be a combination of cash and gift cards from Fleet Feet in the following amounts: First place — $150, second place — $100 and third place — $50.
