The Eastern Washington University Board of Trustees voted at their monthly meeting to increase tuition by 7 percent for the 2004-05 school year, increasing yearly costs to $3,822 per quarter from the previous cost of $3,582.
Due to the perceived escalation of physically dangerous incidents, Cheney police were to begin carrying tasers.
Cheney boys soccer posted a 4-2 road win over Sunnyside, keyed by goals from Adam Brock, Adam Calyden, Jeff Davis and Chad Thronton.

A bid of $206,997 earned Ponderosa Drilling the contract to drill the first of two new water wells for the city of Cheney, located one and one-half miles west of town.
“Livestock ’94,” EWU’s year-end outdoor concert featuring bands from as far away as San Francisco was set to take place at Chissus Field on campus.
The Cheney Lady Hawks softball team won two of three games to advance to the state A-AA Sweet-16 tournament at Franklin Park in Spokane. A highlight of the day was Cheney’s 5-0 win over Colville, who had won three previous games between the two.

Nabisco Brand, Inc. announced the sale of its Cheney grain elevator and processing plant to Archer-Daniels-Midland of Shawnee Mission, Kan. The Cheney facility was constructed in 1918.
The Cheney City Council authorized the extension of water and sewer lines along State Route 904 to Betz Road to accommodate potential future development that might include a mobile home subdivision.
Cheney High School’s track team qualified a number of athletes to the state track meet in Tacoma, including Mike Bunting whose 39.2-second hurdles time set a new school record.

Severe smoke and heat damage was reported to a Cheney apartment belonging to Lila Musser. Musser was not injuried in the incident.

Dr. Richard C. Langston, Superintendent of Cheney Public Schools, surprisingly submitted his resignation at a school board meeting to accept a position as dean of students at Pacific Lutheran University. Langston had been on the job five years.
Charles A. Dittmar Jr. of Cheney High School received a presidential nomination for appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md. He is the son of Rev. and Mrs. C.A. Dittmar.
With wins over Colville, 4-1, and 13-5 against Medical Lake, Cheney moved into the final week of the Northeast A League baseball season in a three-way tie for first with Colville and Mead, head coach Don Monson reported.
