Annual Tyler flea market returns in June

Of Cabbages and Kings

Guess what's happening at Tyler on June 7? They are having a flea market. I haven't seen anyone selling fleas. In fact I've never seen any fleas at all. Maybe they're saving them for a different occasion? You'd be surprised at the interesting things they do have for sale.

If you hurry you can join lots of people who are selling items big and small and be part of the competition. Or you can discover something you've always wanted or that will be a perfect gift for a friend. Artistic people gladly show objects that are pleasing.

The annual flea market is co-sponsored by Tyler Grange and Spokane County Fire District 3, Fire Station No. 3 Volunteer Association. The cost of a table or space, inside or outside, is $15. You can set up your items June 6 after 4 p.m. or Saturday, June 7 between 7-8 a.m.

The fire district volunteers serve Saturday's breakfast beginning at 7 a.m. and lunch between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. Lyle Polack, event organizer, stirs our appetites with hints of hamburger or German sausage "dogs" prepared by the volunteers. Proceeds benefit both Tyler Grange and the volunteers from the fire station. Yes, those fellas can really cook.

Have you ever been close to a fire truck? Volunteer personnel will be there to answer questions and let future firefighters touch the equipment.

Every year the Tyler Grange sponsors a garbage pickup along State Route 904. You don't have to belong to the grange to participate. Notice the group of people in the picture who pitched in to make this year a great success. Working together, friendly conversation and the sensation of a task well done brings satisfaction. Remember Tyler's Flea Market June 7. Don't forget: Free coffee day.
