Cheney girls take third place in GNL match

The Cheney High boys’ and girls’ golf teams finished their regular season, May 6, in the fourth Great Northern League (GNL) tournament.

The girls fell back to third place in team scores with 536.

Head coach Gerald Morton said the team was hoping to clinch the top spot in the GNL, but Clarkston - who has led the league in the past three matches - is “just too strong.” He added that lack of experience and knowledge playing on the course was another issue for the team.

“Not knowing what is right over the hill or around the corner can cost you strokes,” Morton said.
