Distance running and sprints have been the mainstay for the Medical Lake track team for much of this season. But last week the field event team member let everyone know they were present at events and needed to be counted.
In Wednesday’s 104-40 boy’s Northeast A League win, and a 75-60 girl’s victory over Chewelah, throwers and jumpers helped the Medical Lake effort, co-head coach Gene Blankenship said. “We got some help out of our field events.”
Elijah Farmen placed second in the shot put, discus and won the javelin with a 148 foot, 9 inch throw. Tellas Johnson won in the high jump at 5-feet even.
Throwing events proved to be critical points for the girls. “Nyirenda Ross was second in the discus which helped the girl’s score,” Blankenship said.
Domenic Rehm took both the 1,600 and 3,200 meters and was third in the 800. Lexi Rolan and Mariah Pena led the Cardinal girls with respective wins in the 100 and 200 meters and the 800 and 1,600. Maleeka Wegner won in the 3,200.
Friday at the Riverside Twilight Invite, Farmen, Garrett, Cameron Peake and Jared Wright teamed to win in the 4x100 relay. Rehm won the 1,600. Pena won the 800 meters while Ross was second in the discus for the girls.
