The second phase of developer Rob Brewster's building plans in downtown Cheney, a 108-bed dorm similar to one completed two years earlier, received a conditional use permit from the Cheney Planning Commission.

Even with recent changes to the Pioneer Park skate park in Medical Lake, city officials are still grappling with noise issues and how to appease neighbors.

Cheney High School hoped to use approximately $1.1 million left over from its $3.2 million capital fund in order to fix some of the school's athletic facilities, including installation of a new all-weather running track.

After weeks of pouring over conflicting evidence, hearsay and allegations involving alleged physical and verbal abuse at Sherrie's Daycare, the Cheney city prosecutor decided there was not enough evidence to pursue charges.

The city of Medical Lake moved a step closer to building a new sewage treatment facility following the receipt of a letter from the state indicating it would help provide funding.

As Frontier League baseball teams reached the one-third point in the season the close competition top-to-bottom was very evident with West Valley with a 4-1 record, plus Cheney, Clarkston and Colville, all 3-2, separated by just a single game.

April 12, 1984

The Cheney City Council ratified a one-year contract with the Cheney Police Guild that included a 5.1 percent increase in wages and benefits.

Members of the Cheney Centennial Committee were reaching out to the community to ask them what they thought might be contained in a time capsule that would be opened in 100 years.

The Cheney High School soccer team avenged its only loss of the season, scoring a 6-1 victory over Mead as Randy Hartman scored four goals while Scott Sarka and Mark Kiver one each.

April 10, 1964

 Citing what was described as a "top-heavy" administration staff with "duplication of authority," the Cheney School District voted 4-1 to abolish the position of assistant superintendent for business, occupied by Lowell Poore who was paid an annual salary of $14,398.

The Espanola Grange recently celebrated its 45th anniversary, still showing one original member, Amanda Alberts, on its roster.

Cheney High School's track team got a first place finish from its mile relay team and wins in field events from Ron Tubbs in the discus and Dick Lee in the javelin, finishing a distant second with 36 points to Medical Lake's 70 points.
