Citing what was described as a "top-heavy" administration staff with "duplication of authority," the Cheney School District voted 4-1 to abolish the position of assistant superintendent for business, occupied by Lowell Poore who was paid an annual salary of $14,398.
The Espanola Grange recently celebrated its 45th anniversary, still showing one original member, Amanda Alberts, on its roster.
Cheney High School's track team got a first place finish from its mile relay team and wins in field events from Ron Tubbs in the discus and Dick Lee in the javelin, finishing a distant second with 36 points to Medical Lake's 70 points.
