Senior Peter Condon works on his short game on The Fairways Golf Course during practice.

The Cheney boys' golf team has been busy on the links, as they get ready for the remainder of the season.

Bob Hilzendeger, who is in his second year as head coach, said the season is "going well." After losing seniors Nick Hilzendeger and Tyler Maurer to graduation, several players have been practicing in hopes of moving up the ranks.

"They're a pretty young and inexperienced team so far," Hilzendeger said. "But, I'm seeing players coming around and improving quickly."

One player who Hilzendeger expects to do well this season is senior Peter Condon. Hilzendeger thinks Condon, who is in his fourth year with the program, will be shooting in the mid-80s before the end of the season and hopes he makes it to state competition.

"He's been working on his short game and has been doing better every week," Hilzendeger said.

Other players who have potential this season include sophomore Tanner Cunningham, and freshmen Kendall Wells and Ashton Tanzer.

The team began their season at the Clarkston Invite, March 10. Hilzendeger said it was a tough course to "start the season on," especially after only two practices.

The team returned to Clarkston two weeks later to compete in their first GNL contest. Cheney placed fourth in team scores with 521 points.

Hilzendeger said players would have the option to practice during spring break.

As for the goals for the remainder of the season, Hilzendeger said he hopes the younger players will get better with every swing. He also would like to have a round where everyone on the team shoots under 100.

The golf team competes in a dual against Medical Lake, today, April 3 at The Fairways.
