At a special meeting March 5, Eastern Washington University’s board of trustees approved the hiring of a consultant firm to help search for a new president.

The board accepted a bid from EFL Associates to help in the hunt for a replacement for Dr. Rodolfo

Arévalo, who is retiring July 15. Then board decided in a Feb. 6 special meeting to make a national search with the intention of having a successful candidate in place before Arévalo leaves.

According to its website, EFL Associates specializes in executive searches in a variety of fields, including energy, financial, life sciences and higher education. The company was founded in 1999, and has offices in Leawood, Kan .; Denver and Houston.

EWU Director of Media Relations Dave Meany said the university is going through the state bid acceptance process and is expected to formalize a contract with EFL Associates this week. The trustees also delegated authority to board chair Paul Tanaka to appoint an advisory search committee to aid in the search for Arévalo’s replacement.

Meany said he didn’t believe search committee members had been named yet. The board of trustees next regular meeting is scheduled for Friday, March. 21.
