Final quarter dooms ML girls

The Medical Lake girl’s basketball team’s offensive woes cost them a return to the postseason following a 51-35 loss at home to Chewelah last Tuesday night.

After leading 23-22 at halftime, the visitors broke a 31-31 tie in the fourth quarter en route to a 20-4 edge and the win. The loss, Medical Lake’s seventh straight, dropped the Cardinals record to 3-9 in Northeast A League play and a three-way tie for fifth.

Chewelah earned the tiebreaker for the finals playoff berth as a result of total points differential in the two games between the teams this year. The Cards earned a 57-51 win in Chewelah on Jan. 14.

Emily Bonsant paced Medical Lake with 11 points, the only Card in double figures, equaling the 11 from Kaitlin Krouse who also added 10 rebounds for a double-double.
