Verve Vintage Home Furnishings to temporarily close doors

For the past 18 months, Verve Vintage Home Furnishings has been one of three businesses on the corner of 107 Lake St., in Medical Lake. However, the store will undergo a change as owner Rhonda Edgar gets ready to temporarily close Verve's doors, Feb. 21. The store will reopen, April 10, at its new location, 111 N. Lefevre, next to Lindee B's Diner.

According to Edgar, sole proprietor of Verve Vintage, the change of locations was a result from an increase in both inventory and business. For Edgar, the new location will allow her to accommodate larger merchandise, including furniture pieces.

Edgar opened Verve Vintage in 2012 and currently shares the building with Studio D hair salon and Closet Corner Boutique. Debby Norman, owner of Studio D, and Jen Tappero, owner of Corner Closet, have shared the building with Edgar for the past two years.

Norman said the move for Verve Vintage not only gives Edgar an opportunity to grow her business, but also gives the salon a chance to expand. Tappero mentioned she is happy for Edgar and is glad the new location for Verve is close.

Edgar said opening her own store had been a life-long dream which she began to pursue after experiencing a change in lifestyle. She as inspired by the vintage style and has procured various items throughout her life.

"I decided to bite the bullet and open the store to share my passion with others," Edgar said.

For Edgar, running the business has been a journey. She had originally intended to move her store in Spokane, but decided against it after she realized how being in Medical Lake has helped her business. She is thankful for how Medical Lake has supported not only her store, but also other businesses in the area.

"The fact that we are all growing is a testament to how the community supports local businesses," Edgar said. "Without their support, we wouldn't be here."

Edgar mentioned Medical Lake has also been receptive to the vintage merchandise shows she hosts. According to Edgar, the shows are community events where local vendors come and sell their merchandise. The next show being "Verve Vintage Founder's Day Kickoff" will happen June 14 during Founder's Day.

Edgar mentioned that customers have also volunteered to help her move her inventory to the new location.

"The people who come to the shop aren't just comers, they're friends," Edgar said.

Edgar hopes that the move will help her continue to reach out to the community and grow her business in an "organic way."
