Eastern Star members (left to right) Winifred Steiner, Suzanne Dolle, Carole Folsom, Elaine Weigle and Dennis Dolle show one of the quilts they recently delivered to local shutins.

Members of Cheney's Eastern Star Martha Chapter recently visited shut-ins in the area, and delivered handmade quilted lap blankets.

The chapter supports local charities including Cheney Food Bank, Demolay, Relay for Life, Jobs Daughters and Cheney Girls State delegates. Outreach programs such as visiting shut-ins and nursing homes are an important part of their community service.

Martha Chapter No. 60, Order of Eastern Star was founded on June 15, 1900 in Cheney. The Order is the largest fraternal organization in the world to which both men and women can belong.

Meetings are held on the second and fourth Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. For more information contact Elaine Weigel at (509) 463-2632.
